About the Department

The Department of Construction Technology at the University College of Kuliyapitiya (UCK) is one of the flagship departments of the institution, offering a comprehensive two-year diploma programme in Construction Technology at NVQ Levels 5 and 6.

UCK was established under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skill Development to bridge the skill gap in Sri Lanka's technical and vocational education sector. The university college functions within the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Framework and caters to students who have completed their school education as well as NVQ Level 4 qualified professionals seeking to upgrade their qualifications.

The Construction Technology Department is equipped with modern facilities for practical training including construction labs, computer labs for AutoCAD and estimation software, and access to real-world construction sites for industry exposure.

Programme Details

NVQ Level 5
1 Year

Diploma in Construction Technology

  • Foundation in construction principles
  • Bricklaying, carpentry, and concreting
  • AutoCAD and technical drawing
  • Site safety and quality control
  • Materials science and estimation
NVQ Level 6
1 Year (after Level 5)

Advanced Diploma in Construction Technology

Key Areas Covered

  • Advanced structural engineering concepts
  • Project planning and management
  • Cost estimation and BOQ preparation
  • Building services integration
  • Supervised site engineering practice

Entry Qualifications

  • Passed G.C.E. (O/L) with at least 6 subjects including Mathematics and a Science subject
  • Minimum age of 18 years at the time of application
  • NVQ Level 4 qualified professionals are also eligible
  • University dropouts seeking a technical qualification pathway
  • Proficiency in Sinhala or Tamil language medium
